For my first collection of primary research I chose to visit the seaside town of Skegness. This town was selection for convenience of location rather than its aesthetics, just over an hour on the train.
I made a great day of my trip, collecting photographs, eating ice cream on the beach, paddling in the sea and of course drawing from life. Unfortunately I had forgotten my sketchbook do had to draw on loose paper to then stick in my book.
Up until partaking in this foundation course I had never appreciated the importance of drawing from real life, in the past I have always gone to a location and taken masses of photographs. I then wouldn't start drawing until I had returned home, sifted through the photos and selected 'good' ones.
Comparing drawings from photographs to drawings from real life, there is no competition.
Real life wins hands down every time.
