Willow Pattern

Willow Pattern

The main concept behind using the crockery had always been to smash it up into tiny pieces, I set out one afternoon with a hammer and screw driver with the intention of smashing a large proportion of the crockery

The individual and the social

The second project brief for my course was entitled 'The individual and the social' the aim was to consider our own Fine Practice within a broader framework (society), whilst developing an awareness of how individual identity develops and is constructed by a range of factors, which transform with time and relate to the external, material world.

I based my project around a Willow Pattern dinner set I received from my Grandmother as a child, a once treasured gift, now representing years of resentment and memories. Before embarking on the project I set out to document the dinner set in multiple ways, photography, drawing, monoprint.

Looking at the idea of tea and British culture in a very literal way by photographing on a Union Jack rug

An afternoon in Otley Chevrin documenting the dinner set.
In response to the works of Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long.

Since September I have been living in Leeds, studying Fine Art at the College of Art. I have a great time over the last six months, but I haven't been enjoying the course as much as I hoped I would. I had such high expectations following the most amazing year at New College Nottingham completing a foundation diploma, part of me thought it would be just like that. I am enjoying the course much more recently, now that I am getting into my projects and producing better work. I think I just needed time to settle in.

Below are a few images from the first project I completed, entitled Transformations which led on from the summer work I was assigned, relating to a plaster cast of a lego house.

Creating drawing machines with found materials in the studio.

A selection of the works included in the exhibiton.

It's been a good six months since I mentioned my exhibition  finally I am  uploading a few images. It went very well, I had a good turn out and sold a fair amount of works which funded my first term at art college. As you can see from the images the space was not ideal, as it was in my local museum but it was adequate.

It was great fun curating my own show, I had forgotten how much work I had completed during my foundation course. I really enjoyed having people coming in to see my work, people had made the effort specially and this made me feel great about my work.
