Third and final year

As much as I was prepared for the increase in work load for my final year I never expected it to be as manic as it is.

The hardest thing is weighing up time between the excitement and fun of creating work and the written theory side- obviously I want to spent time playing with latex, plaster and wax- unfortunately I won't pass my degree by doing this alone! 

On the plus side I have a fantastic new studio space!!

This week I have been working towards a solo show is Cascais, after living in Lisbon for a couple of months I was given the opportunity to host a small exhibition at Rota Jovem.

Missing my studio

When I am in my studio it is a hot crazy mess; with boob, latex and paper flying all over the place. After two months of not having a studio I miss it like mad, I have no space in which to be creative and messy - the dining room table just isn't the same, having to clear it away every evening to eat dinner.

It has made me realise that this time next year I will be completely without a studio once I graduate, need to start looking for options. At the minute I am thinking about having my own shed in my parents garden, a room that is all mine to hide away and be MESSY!

Whilst working away for the summer I have no access to my usual materials, on a low budget I have resorted to salt dough. 

RECIPE: 2 parts flour, 1 part water, 1 part salt

SETTING: bake

The results needs some (alot) work, but it is a medium I would like to explore further.

The human figure has long been the foremost subject in art; today the re-emergence of the nude body can be seen across a range of different mediums, from Lucian Freud’s lauded paintings to digitally rendered art. This exhibition showcases a selection of artists from the UK and abroad including France, Germany, Russia and Slovakia, exploring and examining the subject of the ‘Nude’ from varying perspectives in mixed media from paint to photography. Spanning from the soft and evocative painterly figures by D W Whitfield through to the colourful sketchy characters of Susan Harrison, in stark contrast to the realism of Konstantinos Vasileiou’s bare bodies and the colourfully comic yet socially aware portrayals of Tomas Picha, we are proud to exhibit works in a range of styles and textures truly encompassing the breadth of human experience and with both nostalgic and startlingly new interpretations expose on the everlasting subject of the human form.
